Development Kits for Autonomous ARINC 429 Devices

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Mission Viejo, CA (January 23, 2014) - Holt Integrated Circuits today introduced several application development kits to complement its recently introduced family of autonomous ARINC 429 devices, HI-8470, HI-8475 and HI-8476. These devices connect directly to the ARINC 429 bus and enable transmission or reception of data without using an MCU or software. All control and configuration is done in hardware, by strapping logic-level input pins.

Each device has a dedicated application development kit, ADK-8470, ADK-8475 and ADK-8476 demonstrating its key features. The HI-8470 is a 16-channel discrete-to-digital sensor with built-in ARINC 429 line driver, DC/DC converter for 3.3V single-supply operation and label programmability. The HI-8475 and HI-8476 are ARINC 429 line receivers with label recognition, capable of directly translating serial ARINC 429 bus data to 32 digital output pins. All devices include on-chip lightning protection per the RTCA/DO-160G specification. All operate autonomously without software or MCU interface, fully configured by logic level pin inputs.

Two additional reference designs demonstrate the use of these devices in common aerospace applications. The ADK-8476 RPT board demonstrates a simple ARINC 429 repeater made from just a HI-8476 device and a HI-8470 device. This two component solution eliminates the microcontroller, software and associated certification costs, and additional ARINC 429 protocol devices needed in traditional repeater designs. The ADK-8470 ADC board demonstrates how analog sensor data generated by a simple A-to-D converter can be periodically transmitted on an ARINC 429 bus, without using an MCU.
