Holt is actively seeking to fill the following positions:

Integrated Circuit Applications Engineer

Holt Integrated Circuits Inc. is a semiconductor company located in Orange County, California. Our company specializes in system-engineered integrated circuits used in aerospace and aircraft networking hardware. Our high reliability devices are used by virtually all aircraft and related electronic subsystem industries. Holt has a long history of profitability, improving margins, and a strong balance sheet with plans to continuously expand market opportunities.

Due to continued growth, Holt is currently seeking a Senior Systems/Applications Engineer. The engineer will be responsible for supporting customer engineers, evaluation and optimization of customer boards in Holt’s lab or in customer's lab, and supporting internal design, marketing and other application engineers by feedback of customer technical dialog.

As part of the design team, this role supports all aspects of the product life cycle for our integrated circuits (ICs), from initial definition, through design and into volume production. It comprises a number of varied tasks requiring a diverse range of engineering skills.

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Perform bench testing of Holt IC application development boards that are based on Holt reference designs. With sufficient experience, design such kits for new IC products.
  • Understand the application of our ICs; optimize Holt IC reference designs and demo programs.
  • Contribute to the writing of IC test specifications, notably in the area of design verification.
  • Provide support to customer engineers designing Holt ICs into their products. Be receptive to customer feedback leading to Holt product improvement.
  • Based on Holt's reference designs and demo programs, understand the coding of embedded software that controls the IC.
  • Use an IC data sheet or specification to define verification measurement methods.
  • Use an IC specification to perform and document design investigation results, using (or developing) scripted capabilities as required.
  • Report findings in a form usable by all relevant parties, such as test reports for internal users, or data sheets or revisions for external customers.
  • Take an IC specification and define verification methods using simulation or hardware testing to create test stimulus and expected response files.
  • Analyze failed devices returned from the field. Identify or define improvements to test coverage. Define and coordinate corrective action changes.
  • Perform schematic capture and review/approve PCB board layout of customer evaluation boards and new design test boards.
  • Write application notes, quick start guides and test reports for product devices.

The main skills required are:

  • Analog design experience over a range of circuit functions.
  • Digital design experience, preferably including familiarity with Verilog or VHDL.
  • High and low level software. Experience of C/C++ and assembly language would be a significant advantage.
  • Knowledge of integrated circuit measurement methods for evaluation, verification, debug and investigation, in both laboratory and production environments.
  • The ability to be self-directing or work in a team as required.
  • Knowledge of IC design and manufacturing and test processes is an advantage.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • BSEE and 5 years related work experience; or Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent hands-on experience testing and integration of embedded systems hardware based on microcontrollers or field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
  • Strong understanding of microcontroller integrated development environments (IDEs) including C software editing, compilation and debugging, and/or familiarity with Verilog or VHDL design methods for FPGAs.
  • Prefer some experience in C or C++ programming languages, as well as schematic capture programs such as OrCAD Capture.
  • Effective verbal and written English skills required. Must be comfortable preparing and presenting data and reports to both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to travel and interface with domestic and international customers.
