Holt Integrated Circuits Announces Validation of World’s Smallest MIL-STD-1553 Remote Terminal

Friday, January 22, 2010

Mission Viejo, CA (January 21, 2010) – Holt Integrated Circuits, a world leader in data bus IC’s for the avionics and military industries, today announced formal MIL-STD-1553 RT validation of HI-6120/21, the world’s smallest Remote Terminal solutions.  Validation was performed at Test Systems, Inc., an independent Air Force approved testing service for MIL-STD-1553 remote terminals.

These devices provide a single-chip, 3.3V MIL-STD-1553 Remote Terminal solution, including dual transceivers, in compact surface-mount plastic packages. The HI-6120 uses a 16-bit parallel host bus interface in a 100-pin PQFP package.  The HI-6121 uses a 4-wire Serial Peripheral host Interface (SPI) and comes in a 52-pin PQFP or 64-pin QFN.  The 64-pin QFN is the world’s smallest remote terminal solution, at only 9mm x 9mm x 1mm.  Both devices handle all aspects of the MIL-STD-1553 protocol, including message encoding, decoding, error detection, illegal command detection and data buffering. Host data management is simplified by storing message information and data within the on-chip 32K x 16-bit static RAM.

“Validation by an approved third party gives our customers an assurance that our devices comply fully with the MIL-STD-1553 specification,” said Anthony Murray, Director of Business Development at Holt.  “This is a necessary step in providing our customers with all the documentation required to pass their own certifications, such as DO-254”.

The devices are now fully production released and are offered with industrial -40oC to + 85oC, or extended, -55oC to + 125oC temperature ranges.  Optional burn-in is available on the extended temperature range. RoHS-compliant lead-free options are also offered.  In addition, each device has a dedicated Developer’s Kit which includes a demonstration board with on-board Zilog® ZNEOTM microprocessor, supporting software, cables and power supply.
