Independent Validation of MIL-STD-1553 / MIL-STD-1760 IP Core

Friday, August 24, 2018

Mission Viejo, CA (August 22, 2018) – Holt Integrated Circuits today announced formal MIL-STD-1553 RT validation of its recently announced HI-6300 MIL-STD-1553 / MIL-STD-1760 IP core. Validation was performed at Test Systems, Inc., an independent Air Force approved testing service for MIL-STD-1553 hardware. A validation report is available on request.

The IP Core supports Bus Controller (BC), Monitor Terminal (MT) or Remote Terminal (RT) functions, with all options having a high-performance synchronous host interface allowing easy connection to AMBA AXI4 interface protocol or PCI-Express. Enabled terminals communicate with the MIL-STD-1553 buses through a dual bus transceiver, HI-1587, and external isolation transformer, also available from Holt.

The HI-1587 is the world’s first MIL-STD-1553 transceiver featuring 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V compatible digital I/O and includes an integrated IP security module eliminating the need for a separate dongle chip to unlock the IP.

Validation was performed on a Xilinx KCU116 Evaluation Kit utilizing a Xilinx Kintex UltraScale+ FPGA. The tested terminal featured Holt IP for MIL-STD-1553 protocol and synchronous host interface. Xilinx IP for AXI4 PCIe Endpoint provided PCI Express compatibility for host PC read/write access and power-up configuration purposes. A custom board was designed by Holt to interface the HI-1587 transceiver/security IC and MIL-STD-1553 bus to the Xilinx FPGA board.

“Validation of our IP Core by an approved third party gives our customers an assurance that our devices comply fully with the MIL-STD-1553 specification,” said Sean Sleicher, Director of Business Development at Holt.

The Holt IP core product includes the HI-6300 IP Core, a Verilog test bench and supporting documentation, allowing designers to instantiate the core in a variety of FPGA implementations.

Also available is a high-level API software library supporting Linux, VxWorks, or bare metal implementations. The API is compatible with competitor legacy APIs allowing developers to reuse existing application software.
