Quad 800V Galvanically Isolated Discrete-to-Digital Sensor

Wednesday, August 22, 2018

Mission Viejo, CA (August 15, 2018) – Holt Integrated Circuits today announced the release of a quad galvanically isolated discrete-to-digital sensor for avionics applications. The HI-8400 exceeds Airbus ABD0100 specification requirements by providing 800V galvanic isolation between individual sensors and the logic interface. Sensor input thresholds are compliant to Airbus ABD0100H and MIL-STD-704 specifications and sensor outputs may be read from a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) or parallel bus. A sensor output interrupt pin alerts the system to a change in sensor input, avoiding constant polling via SPI to check status.

Each discrete input is configurable as a GND/Open or Supply/Open (28V/Open) sensor, making this device ideal for systems required to tolerate different grounds or excessive voltage transients. The HI-8400 is also suitable for relay switching detection, providing a 1mA wetting current to prevent dry contacts. In addition to galvanic isolation, all sense inputs are internally lightning protected to RTCA/DO160G, Section 22 Level 3 Pin Injection Test Waveform Set A (3 & 4), Set B (3 & 5A) and Set Z (3 & 5B) with respect to the sensor return ground without using external components.

“Galvanic isolation and integrated lightning protection are often requirements in avionics systems, and implementation sometimes requires a large number of individual discrete components”, said George Noh, Director of Sales and Marketing at Holt. “This product integrates both sensing and protection functions in a single device, providing our customers with a simple, cost effective and space saving solution.”

The device is available in industrial −40oC to +85oC and extended −55oC to +125oC temperature ranges with optional burn-in at the higher temperature, and comes in a compact 44 pin PQFP package. Samples and an evaluation board are available from Holt on request.
