Sensor Data Transmission on ARINC 429 Bus with No Software or MCU

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Mission Viejo, CA (August 1, 2013) – Holt Integrated Circuits today demonstrated the collection of sensor data and periodic real-time transmission on an ARINC 429 bus with no software or MCU. The key enabler of this capability is the recently announced HI-8470, a 16-channel discrete-to-digital sensor with built-in ARINC 429 transmitter. All sense input thresholds and ARINC 429 transmission control are programmed via logic level input pins, eliminating the need for a microprocessor or software interface and greatly reducing software certification costs.

A simple 3.3V evaluation board containing an ADC and Holt’s HI-8470 is used to interface with an external sensor. The ADC converts the sensor data to digital signals which are detected by the HI-8470 and autonomously transmitted on an ARINC 429 bus without any software or MCU. The compact 2 inch board may be easily interfaced to any external sensor and all functions and configuration are performed by on-board hardware switches.

“This board effectively demonstrates how easy it is to use our HI-8470 in a simple sensing application,” said George Noh, Director of Sales and Marketing at Holt. “Since no software or programming is required, users can easily adapt this design for their own sensing applications.”

Application Notes and Evaluation Boards are available from Holt’s website.
